Presentation
The patient was hit by stick in his left jaw with no external bleeding or skin laceration.
Patient Data
The left parotid gland appears diffusely enlarged and heterogeneous with increased internal vascularity without detectable laceration of its capsule or injury to the retromandibular vein or external carotid artery; the left parotid duct is dilated.
The right parotid gland appears normal in echo-pattern and shape.
The left parotid gland shows diffuse swelling and is hyperdense in comparison with the right side, as well as oedema of the overlying subcutaneous fat; left parotid duct appears dilated. No facial fracture.
The left parotid gland duct is dilated due to excessive secretion from parotid gland or duct injury.
Case Discussion
Salivary gland injury is uncommon and expresses a wide variety of injury starting from the laceration of duct or gland, sialadenitis, and facial nerve or vascular injury. The swelling was reduced after one month without follow up imaging.
