The MRI sequences demonstrate:
- ectopic posterior pituitary at the top of the infundibulum seen as a small region of high T1
- thin infundibulum well-visualised mainly on postcontrast sagittal sequence
- hypoplastic anterior pituitary gland
Note incidental zipper artifacts on the sagittal sequences.
Case Discussion
The clinical presentation and MRI features are most consistent with a pituitary stalk interruption syndrome.
Pituitary stalk interruption syndrome, also known as pituitary stalk transection syndrome, is a syndrome characterised by:
- absent or hypoplastic anterior pituitary gland
- thin or absent infundibulum
- ectopic posterior pituitary location
