Proximal iliotibial band syndrome

Diagnosis almost certain

Presentation

Left sided pelvic pain for 4 weeks. No history of trauma.

Patient Data

Age: 50 years
Gender: Male

The fluid sensitive sequences demonstrate slight thickening of the left iliotibial band enthesis with surrounding oedema (i.e. enthesitis) extending into the adjacent subcutaneous tissue and gluteus medius muscle.

Case Discussion

50 years old gentleman with 4 week history of left pelvic pain. MRI demonstrates mild thickening of the left proximal iliotibial band enthesis near its attachment to the iliac tubercle which lies postero-inferior to the anterior superior iliac spine. The fluid sensitive sequences show abnormal surrounding high signal change due to partial tear and oedema. No underling bony abnormality.
