MRI shows bilateral enlargement of CSF space around the optic nerves (T2) and mild enhancement of the optic nerves, compatible with pseudotumor cerebri (idiopathic intracranial hypertension).
Other findings which may be seen (although not in this case), include:
- papilledema (flattening of the sclera and optic nerve protrusion),
- empty sella turcica
In an atypical case, venous thrombosis must be excluded.
