Maisonneuve fracture

Discussion:

Maisonneuve fracture-dislocation is a combination of distal tibiofibular syndesmosis disruption with possible deltoid ligament tear (unstable ankle injury that might or might not be associated with medial malleolus fracture) with proximal fibular fracture. This case shows why imaging of the entire fibula is a must if widening of the medial tibiotalar joint space is present on an ankle radiograph. Maisonneuve fracture is a variant of Weber type C fracture that requires knee or full-length tibia-fibula radiographs.
