These lesions are typically larger than the rectovaginal septal or retroforniceal lesions (>3 cm), and occur when a posterior forniceal lesion extends cranially toward the anterior rectal wall (commonly associated with rectal muscularis infiltration) but remain sub-peritoneal in location.
