Transient bone marrow edema of the hip

Discussion:

Diffuse bone marrow edema throughout femoral head and neck with features of synovitis.  Bone scan shows a focal hot spot in the femoral head with a subtle linear defect on T1 coronal MRI = subtle "stress" fracture with marked surrounding reactive edema.   This is thought to be the origin of so-called "transient bone marrow edema".
