Waist of scaphoid fracture

Discussion:

The waist of the scaphoid is prone to fracture typically from a fall on an outstretched hand (FOOSH).

It is the commonest carpal bone fracture by far representing three quarters of all carpal bone fractures.  Of these, three quarters occur through the waist.

These fractures require close attention as AVN of the proximal pole may occur.
