Sialolithiasis is most common disease of salivary glands, accounting for about half of all major salivary gland pathology.
The vast majority of stones involve the submandibular gland, with only a small proportion involving the parotid gland.
The gland may be evaulated with various imaging modalities including; ultrasound, sialography (fluroscopic), CT and MR sialography.
Fluroscopic stone retrieval may also be undertaken.
