Trifid median nerve

Discussion:

A patient with clinical features and nerve conduction velocity test favoring right carpal tunnel syndrome presented for an ultrasound. The ultrasound shows right carpal tunnel syndrome (no images uploaded here).

The contralateral asymptomatic side was examined for comparison which shows a trifid median nerve.

The median nerve divides into two or three branches after exiting the carpal tunnel. Nerve division proximal to the carpal tunnel is considered an anatomical variant.
