Subclavian steal syndrome

Discussion:

Subclavian steal syndrome results from occlusion or severe stenosis of the proximal subclavian artery resulting in complete retrograde or antegrade-retrograde flow in the ipsilateral vertebral artery.

The most important signs in the Doppler examination of the vertebral arteries include:

  • presence or absence of flow
  • direction of blood flow
  • flow pattern
