Diffuse or widespread ground-glass opacification/opacity carries can either manifest as diffuse ground-glass nodules or amorphous areas of diffuse ground glass.
They can carry a wide differential diagnosis 1-3:
- diffuse alveolar disease
- interstitial lung disease
- hypersensitivity pneumonitis
- connective tissue disease, e.g. scleroderma, rheumatoid arthritis
- non-specific idiopathic fibrosis (NSIP)
- drug toxicity, e.g. cyclophosphamide, bleomycin
