The dorsal scapular nerve is a branch from the posterior aspect of the C5 root of the brachial plexus and supplies the rhomboid muscles. It courses through scalenus medius then with the dorsal scapular vessels inferiorly deep to levator scapulae where it lies on serratus posterior superior. It supplies both rhomboids on their deep surfaces and may also supply levator scapulae via a separate branch.
