Body was changed:

TheThe Fowler-Philip angle reflects the relation of the inferior calcaneus to the posterior calcaneus.

Measurement

It is an angle measured on the lateral view of a loaded foot; formed between 2 lines:

  • a line tangent to the posterosuperior border of the calcaneus and the calcaneal tuberosity.
  • a line tangent to the inferior border of the calcaneus (longitudinal axis of the calcaneus).
Interpretation

Its normal range is between 44° and 69°.

A Fowler-Philip angle of more than 75 degrees is supposedly diagnostic of enlargement of the posterior aspect of the calcaneus, as seen in the Haglund deformity or retrocalcaneal bursitis.
