A hepatic adrenal rest tumour (HART) (previously been termed primary hypernephroma of the liver or hypernephroid carcinoma of the liver) is a very rare liver tumour with histology similar to adrenocortical carcinoma

Epidemiology

It tends to occur in younger patients and and there is no regosnised genders gender predilection.

Pathology

It is is considered to be derived from the adrenal rest in the liver. The presence of fat within the tumour is the most characteristic feature.

Radiographic features

General

While imaging features a non specific it usually it usually appears as a round, well defined mass in the liver. There may be a right lobe predilection. Lesions are typically subcapsular and can demonstratinghypervascularity demonstrate hypervascularity. They can often contain foci of calcification.

One specific radiological imaging feature is is the presence of fat components.
