Body was changed:

Interatrial septal aneurysm is defined as an abnormal protrusion of the interatrial septum of more than 15 mm beyond normal excursion in adults and 5 mm in children.

It is encoutered in approximately 1 % of the pediatric population. It can be limited to the fossa ovalis or involve the entire interatrial septum.

Clinical manifestation

Interatrial septal aneurysm is associated with an increased incidence of peripheral arterial embolism and increased stroke risk.

It is known to be associated with atrial septal defect and patent foramen ovale.
