Non-specific oesophageal motility disorder (NSMD) is one of the oesophageal dysmotility disorders. It is used to describe patients with oesophageal dysmotility that do not meet diagnostic criteria for other oesophageal motility disorders.
Clinical presentation
Patients may be asymptomatic or present with dysphagia or less commonly chest pain.
Radiographic features
Fluoroscopy
On barium swallow, the following findings may be present:
- interrupted primary peristalsis
- variable number and severity of tertiary (non-propulsive)
contractionscontractions - failure of lower oesophageal sphincter relaxation
