Rima vestibuli

Last revised by Yuranga Weerakkody on 21 Feb 2024

The rima vestibuli is the V-shaped space formed between the false vocal cords, which allows the passage of air through the larynx. It is larger and located superior to the rima glottidis.

It should not be confused for the laryngeal vestibule, which is the entire open space of the supraglottis between the laryngeal inlet and true vocal folds.

History and etymology

Rima is Latin for a narrow cleft, crack or slit.
