Sex cord / stromal testicular tumors
Updates to Article Attributes
Sex cord / stromal testicular tumours are uncommon testicular neoplasms. Although ~90% of these tumours are benign, they cannot be differentiated from testicular malignancies on imaging, and are therefore usually discovered after orchidectomy.
Leydig cell tumour of the testis (most common, ~30% hormonally active)
Epidemiology
They are uncommon testicular neoplasms with a mildly increased incidence in paediatric patients.
4% of all testicular neoplasms in the general population
11% of all testicular neoplasms in those <12 years old
Pathology
These tumours arise from cells that form the sex cords (Sertoli cells) and those that form the testicular stroma (Leydig cells).
