The sinus of Morgagni is a defect in the anterior aspect of the pharyngobasilar fascia. It transmits the Eustachian tube and tensor veli palatini muscle and allows communication between the nasopharynx and middle ear.

Terminology

Not to be confused with the foramen of Morgagni, an anterior thoracic wall defect.

Related pathology

Advanced nasopharyngeal carcinoma can extend into the middle ear via the sinus of Morgagni. Malignant invasion of the sinus can result in Trotter's syndrome.
