Neostriatum refers is the name given to the caudate nucleus plus and the putamen (the putamen is the outer layer of the lentiform nucleus).

The term is sometimes abbreviated to striatum, however, this should be distinguished from corpus striatum (which is the caudate nucleus plus the whole of the lentiform nucleus).
