Superior mediastinum is an artificially divided wedge-shaped compartment of the mediastinum located between the thoracic plane inferiorly and the thoracic inlet superiorly. The other mediastinal compartment (anterior, middle and posterior) lieinferior mediastinum lies inferiorly.
