Just to the left of midline, extending from the inferior surface to the hyoid bone to the anterior surface of the thyroid cartilage is a peripherally enhancing soft tissue attenuation mass, which appears to be embedded in the left strap muscles with adjacent fat stranding.
Case Discussion
This is a common location for a thyroglossal duct cyst with the peripheral enhancement and adjacent fat stranding, as well as the patient's symptoms, suspicious for superinfection. Pus was subsequently aspirated from the mass, confirming infection.
