Submandibular sialolithiasis

The left submandibular gland is enlarged and swollen. The submandibular duct (Wharton's duct) is dilated on the left and there is a stone at the distal aspect of the left submandibular duct measured 5 mm.
There are also a few enlarged lymph nodes in the left submandibular region (level Ib).
Case Discussion
Sialolithiasis is the most common disease of the salivary glands. Stones are the most common cause of acute salivary gland inflammation. This case illustrates the typical findings of the submandibular sialadenitis due to sialolithiasis.
