Presentation
Acute mild dyspnea.
Patient Data
Scout view reveals a completely opacified left hemithorax with a significant mediastinal shift to the right. The related CT scan shows a large left-sided well defined cystic lesion with a smooth hyperdense wall and homogeneous fluid content. It is markedly compressing the left lung with residual partial aeration of the left lower lobe. Left lobe bronchus is compressed. Features are suggestive of an intra-thoracic large hydatid cyst.
The cyst wall Is interrupted in the inferolateral portion with an adjacent small amount of pleural effusion, which could be due to hydatid cyst leakage or reactionary.
Case Discussion
The patient came to the emergency room complaining of acute mild dyspnea and imaging revealed this large intrathoracic cyst that surgically confirmed to be a hydatid cyst.
