Presentation
Left-sided lower back pain. Background of renal tubular acidosis.
Patient Data
Bilateral, severe nephrocalcinosis. Calcific densities over the left side of the sacrum in keeping with ureteric calculi.
Extensive, bilateral nephrocalcinosis. The right kidney is atrophic. There is moderate hydronephrosis and prominent proximal hydroureter on the left side. There is a large calculus in the distal left ureter. There is no other definite calculus identified within the urinary tract. There is no bladder calculus. No significant extraurinary finding.
Case Discussion
Complications of medullary nephrocalcinosis include infection and obstructing ureteric calculi.
