Presentation
Ankle pain in a diabetic patient for 8 months. No history of trauma.
Patient Data
Loss of ankle mortice congruence and disorganization/degeneration, florid osteophytes and subchondral sclerosis in the ankle joint, multiple bone fragments/debris within the tibio-talar joint and erosion around the joint space. There is also flattening of the talar dome and sclerosis.
There is loss of congruence in the Subtalar joints and narrowing of the intertarsal joints with associated sclerosis and dorsal osteophytes.
There is no osteoporosis.
Case Discussion
Charcot joint is a progressive/destructive joint disorder in patients with abnormal pain sensation and proprioception. Diabetes is the most common etiology.
