Presentation

Pre-op assessment in a patient with neurofibromatosis and right carotid space schwannoma.

Patient Data

Age: 55 years
Gender: Male
x-ray

Interposition of bowel between the liver and right hemidiaphragm. The haustral pattern and the bowel diameter identify these as colonic loops.

Normal splenic flexure beneath the left hemidiaphragm.

Case Discussion

Chilaiditi sign refers to asymptomatic interposition of bowel between the liver and diaphragm. Occasionally this can mimic pneumoperitoneum.
