Presentation
Chronic draining wound of the femur.
Patient Data
Sinus tract entering the distal lateral femoral metadiaphysis and ascending into the distal 1/3 of the diaphysis, making a blind-ending hairpin turn and associated with a posterior cortical defect and sequestrum at the turn.
Sclerosis/irregularity of the cortex with periosteal reaction. Fluid/stranding associated with the soft tissues at the entrance of the sinus tract and in the anterior compartment. Reactive popliteal adenopathy.
Case Discussion
Several classic findings of chronic osteomyelitis including a sinus tract, sequestrum, cortical sclerosis/irregularity with periosteal reaction, and surrounding soft tissue fluid.
