Presentation

Non-specific low back pain.

Patient Data

Age: 30 years
Gender: Female

Visualized spinal cord is of normal signal intensity and caliber. Conus medullaris ends at the L1-2 level.

Right L5 and S1 nerve roots are conjoined exiting the thecal sac at the L5-S1 level, before the right S1 nerve root branches to exit the ventral S1 foramen.

No intervertebral disc herniation. Spinal canal and neural exit foramina are capacious.

Case Discussion

Conjoined nerve roots are the most common congenital lumbar nerve root anomaly. They are usually asymptomatic.
