Herniated intramuscular lipoma

Presentation

Painless swelling of the right shoulder.

Patient Data

Age: 55 years
Gender: Female

Well-defined intramuscular soft tissue mass within the deltoid muscle, of high signal intensity on both T1 and T2, attenuated on fat sat sequences (T1 fat sat, and STIR) and herniated to the subcutaneous fatty tissue through defects of the deltoid fascia.

High signal of the subcutaneous fat on T2 fat sat and STIR sequences (the patient had recently a subcutaneous injection).
