Presentation
Accidental ingestion of a loose cosmetic dental crown. The patient wanted to know if the foreign body was passed out of the body.
Patient Data
A radiodense foreign body was localized to the left lower quadrant of the abdomen, with shape and density corresponding to the history of a swallowed dental crown.
Case Discussion
The aim of imaging is to guide the management in case of accidental ingestion or aspiration of a foreign body. Chest or abdominal radiographs may be done as an appropriate first step. Identification of the nature of the foreign body from history is crucial in case of risk of chemical or corrosive reaction within the body. Both radiography and fluoroscopy may be done to localize the foreign body.
