Arrived for FNA from thyroid mass.

Patient Data

Age: 40 years
Gender: Female
ultrasound

Ultrasound study focused on the right thyroid lobe:

The mid and inferior poles of the right thyroid lobe are infiltrated by a heterogeneous mass measuring 3.1 x 2.5 x 3.9 cm, mostly solid, with cystic spaces and small echogenic foci. Peripheral macrocalcifications. Lobular contour at the inferior aspect of mass, suspicious for direct spread outside the mass's borders.

TI-RADS 5.

Case Discussion

Arrived for fine needle aspiration from a known mass in the right thyroid lobe.

Cytology report as follows:
Atypical follicular cells in papillary structures, suspicious for papillary carcinoma.
Bethesda 5.
T2a, Nx, Mx

She subsequently underwent thyroidectomy and radioactive iodine ablation. Histology from the entire mass confirmed papillary thyroid carcinoma.
