Parotid duct calculus

Diagnosis almost certain

Presentation

Recurrent left parotid swelling and pain for the last three months. Occasional abnormal taste in the mouth.

Patient Data

Age: 50 years
Gender: Female
ultrasound

Mildly enlarged superficial lobe of the left parotid gland along with dilated intraglandular ducts, few intraparenchymal small nodes, and parenchymal hypervascularity. A dilated extra glandular duct up to intraductal calculus measuring 1.3 mm. The calculus is located about 20 mm distal to the gland. The duct is collapsed distal to the calculus.

The normal superficial lobe of the right parotid gland and both submandibular glands. The rest of the neck examination was also normal.

Case Discussion

The case shows a calculus in the left parotid gland duct with secondary changes of parotid gland inflammation.
