Placenta accreta spectrum

Diagram

Diagram depicting a normal placenta and placenta accreta spectrum.

On the left, a normal placenta abuts the endometrium.

In placenta accreta the placenta adheres to the myometrium.

When the placental tissue extends into the myometrium this is known as placenta increta.

Once the serosa is reached (and/or breached) the term placenta percreta is used.
