Presentation
Palpable lump in left inguinal region.
Patient Data
The palpable abnormality indicated by the patient corresponds to a 57 x 24 x 15 mm (10.4cc) hypoechoic mass. Low level internal echoes are present. The mass is not compressible.
There is increased hilar vascularity on color Doppler.
No acoustic shadowing or posterior enhancement is evident.
The appearances are most in keeping with a reactive lymph node.
There are normal physiological lymph nodes within the right groin.
No defect is seen in the left inguinal region. There is no identifiable herniation of fat or abdominal contents through the inguinal region. There is no mass or hernia identified during a Valsalva maneuver.
Case Discussion
There was no history of trauma or systemic signs of infection in this case. The features was most consistent with a reactive lymph node.
Re-examination was recommended in 6 weeks to evaluate change in size.
FNA could be performed to further evaluate if there was sufficient clinical concern.
