Stress fracture of fibula

Case contributed by Dr David Cuete

Patient with leg pain, history of running practice

Patient Data

Age: 30
Gender: Male

MRI ankle

Magnetic resonance imaging shows a marked edema in the distal aspect of the fibula

Case Discussion

This is consistent with a stress fracture. It is important to realize that radiological changes are late, and often the typical appearance cannot be seen for four weeks so the MRI is the modality of choice for suspected stress fracture.

This stress fracture of the fibula is seen especially in athletes runners patients.
