Presentation

Fall from a moving vehicle one day ago. Now, headache and scalp swelling.

Patient Data

Age: 30 years
Gender: Male
ct

Non-contrast CT scan of the brain showed:

  • right temporoparietal subdural hematoma adjacent to the calvaria and best appreciated in the sub-dural window

  • right temporoparietal swelling (subgaleal hematoma) with underlying temporoparietal fissure fracture

The subdural window can detect thin subdural hematoma that is adjacent to the calvaria more accurately than the standard brain window.

The subdural window can detect shallow subdural hematoma that is adjacent to the calvaria more accurately than the standard brain window. It uses a wider setting than the standard brain window. 

  • center/level 50 HU; window 130 HU

  • center/level 70-100 HU; window 150-300 HU
