Diagnosis almost certain

Presentation

Loud snoring every night and audible breathing while he is awake. Some restlessness and daytime tiredness. Parents have not noted apnea at night.

Patient Data

Age: 5 years
Gender: Male
x-ray

Markedly enlarged adenoids resulting in severe narrowing of the nasopharyngeal airway.

The epiglottis/aryepiglottic folds are normal.

Case Discussion

This is a case of adenoidal hypertrophy resulting in severe narrowing of the nasopharyngeal airway. This is felt to be the etiology of the patient's snoring and loud breathing. The patient was scheduled to follow with otolaryngology to discuss further management.
