Appendiceal mucocele

A well-circumscribed tubular-shaped cystic lesion is seen at the right iliac fossa region, contiguous with the base of the cecum. The appendix could not be defined separately from it. There is no solid enhancing component.
No significant calcifications are observed.
No surrounding fat stranding or abnormal lymph nodes are seen.
Case Discussion
CT imaging features were most consistent with appendiceal mucocele.
Appendiceal mucoceles occur when there is an abnormal accumulation of mucin causing abnormal distention of the vermiform appendix due to various neoplastic or non-neoplastic causes.
The patient was referred for appendectomy and histopathology was compatible with appendiceal mucocele.
