Bilateral spontaneous pneumothorax

Presentation

Chest pain and breath shortness.

Patient Data

Age: 20 years
Gender: Male

Bilateral pneumothorax with a pleural line clearly visible without lung markings beyond. No mediastinal shift to suggest tension. Small volume of pleural fluid on the right with blunting of the costodiaphragmatic angle. 

Case Discussion

This is a case of primary spontaneous pneumothoraces in a patient with no known underlying lung disease. Tall and thin people are more likely to develop a primary spontaneous pneumothorax. There may be a familial component.
