Case Discussion

Rotator cuff calcific tendinopathy presents with calcific deposits within the rotator cuff tendons, mostly involving the supraspinatus tendon, followed by the infraspinatus and then the subscapularis tendon 1. Radiography is the initial investigation performed when patients are suspected to have calcific tendinopathy 2.

On ultrasound, these calcific deposits appear hyperechoic with posterior acoustic shadowing. However, in some cases, they may appear hyperechoic with minimal or no posterior acoustic shadowing, depending on the calcium content 3.

MRI is frequently performed in patients with rotator cuff pathologies, and calcific tendinopathy presents with low signal intensity on all pulse sequences 4.
