Carcinoid tumor with hepatic metastases

Case contributed by Tariq Walizai
Diagnosis almost certain

Presentation

Abdominal episodic pain for a long time.

Patient Data

Age: 50 years
Gender: Male

There is a definable, soft tissue density lesion of 1.9 x 3.6 x 2.9 cm (AP x TRANS x CC) in the mesentery of the small intestines (opposite to L3/4 level) with internal coarse calcifications, speculated margins, and surrounding stranding which is most likely suggestive of carcinoid tumor.

Innumerable, definable, variable-sized, hyperdense lesions are seen in both liver lobes. These lesions show early enhancement in the early phase and washout in the delayed phase (NB: diffuse hepatic steatosis affects the relative lesions density), most likely representing secondary deposits.

The rest of the imaged organs are within normal limits.

Case Discussion

CT findings are most likely representing carcinoid tumor with hepatic metastasis.
