Presentation
Abdominal pain and distension with a history of alcohol abuse.
Patient Data
Liver: nodular in contour and heterogenous in density, consistent with cirrhotic changes. No focal lesions are noted. No hypervascular lesions concerning hepatocellular carcinoma.
Portal venous system: patent
Main portal vein diameter: 1.9 cm
Porto-systemic shunts: gastroesophageal varices measuring up to 0.5 cm
Spleen: enlarged, measuring 16.6 cm.
Kidneys: There are some simple cysts measuring up to 1.1 cm.
Aorta: there are some scattered calcifications.
Peritoneum: moderate volume ascites.
IMPRESSION:
Cirrhotic morphology of liver with stigmata of portal hypertension. Moderate volume ascites.
No focal hepatic lesions concerning for HCC.
Case Discussion
This represents a case of hepatic cirrhosis with portal hypertension.
Liver transplant may be recommended as part of the treatment plan 1.
