Patient Data
There is a single anterior placenta without separating membrane. There are two live fetuses; fused ventrally in the pelvic region.
One fetus shows bilateral pleural effusion, ascites, flexion deformity at the bilateral elbow - wrist, bilateral club foot, intraabdominal echogenic foci. There is an absence of brain sulci with ventricular dilatation.
The other fetus shows bilateral club foot.
There are pelvic cystic structures in both fetuses; possibly separate urinary bladders.
Both fetuses showed the maturity of about 18 weeks.
Case Discussion
Ultrasound findings favor conjoined twins; possibly ischiopagus. One of the fetuses shows hydrops fetalis.
