Presentation

Shortness of breath and cough.

Patient Data

Age: 80 years
Gender: Female
x-ray

Widespread bilateral airspace consolidation in both lungs with sparing of a large part of the left upper lobe.  The distribution has a peripheral predominance. 

No pleural effusion.

Case Discussion

An example of one of the more advanced chest radiograph appearances of COVID-19.

The magnitude of radiographic findings on chest x-ray, even in those with PCR positive tests, is very variable.

This patient was PCR positive following throat swab testing.
