Non-displaced and non-angulated transverse distal radial fracture with possible intra-articular extension. No acute fracture of the distal ulna. The scapholunate interval is widened to 4.8 mm suggesting scapholunate ligament injury. Advanced degeneration of the first CMC joint.
CT confirms transverse fracture of the distal radius with intra-articular extension causing only a small step in the articular surface. Widening of the scapholunate interval is again seen.
Case Discussion
A case of distal radial fracture with associated widening of the scapholunate interval. This interval should normally measure no more than 4mm. Widening implies injury to the scapholunate ligaments which may lead to instability, further widening, proximal migration of the capitate and the development of SLAC wrist.
