Ectopic kidney with staghorn calculus

Left sided ectopic kidney noted in left pelvic region. One large staghorn calculus noted in left renal pelvis with hydronephrotic changes. Diffuse perinephric fat stranding noted. Mild inflammatory wall thickening noted in left proximal ureter with luminal narrowing.
Case Discussion
Ectopic kidney can be of several types. The most common type is one normal and one pelvic kidney which has an occurrence of approximately 1 in 3000. Pelvic kidney can develop infection or calculus or other pathology. In this case, a staghorn calculus noted in left pelvic kidney.
