Flipped anterior horn of the lateral meniscus

Presentation

Long standing right knee pain.

Patient Data

Age: 30 years
Gender: Male

A disproportionately enlarged posterior horn of the lateral meniscus with an empty anterior horn, and a flipped anterior horn of the lateral meniscus seated anterior to the posterior horn of the lateral meniscus.

Case Discussion

A flipped meniscus occurs when a component of a meniscus avulses and the ruptured fragment displaces either anteriorly or posteriorly, as in this case, resulting in a disproportionately enlarged horn of a meniscus, in this case, the posterior horn of the lateral meniscus.
