Presentation
Thorn injury to the right temporoparietal region - a few hours before the presentation.
Patient Data
No fracture/ bone lesion. No metal-dense foreign body in the scalp.
A linear echogenic focus in the scalp measuring 10 mm in length. It represents the thorn fragment. A small echogenic dot represents the thorn in its short axis. A faint acoustic shadow is present. No adjacent scalp collection.
Case Discussion
The patient presented with a history of thorn injury to the scalp. He was able to feel the thorn in the scalp. Ultrasound favored the presence of a thorn fragment which was removed surgically later. Radiographs are useful for detecting metal-dense foreign bodies but fail to detect wooden foreign bodies.
